About the Authors:

Robert Scoble helps run Microsoft’s Channel 9 Web site. He began his blog in 2000 and now has more than 3.5 million readers every year. Scoble’s blog has earned acclaim in Fortune magazine, Fast Company, and The Economist.

Shel Israel played a key strategic role in introducing some of technology’s most successful products, including PowerPoint, FileMaker, and Sun Microsystems workstations. He’s been an expert on innovation for more than twenty years.

An Excerpt from Naked Conversations:

Bloggings's Six Pillars: There are six key differences between blogging and any other communications channel. You can find any of them elsewhere. These are the Six Pillars of Blogging:

1.Publishable.Anyone can publish a blog. You can do it cheaply and post often. Each posting is instantly available worldwide.

2.Findable. Through search engines, people will find blogs by subject, by author, or both. The more you post, the more findable you become.

3.Social. The blogosphere is one big conversation. Interesting topical conversations move from site to site, linking to each other. Through blogs, people with shared interests build relationships unrestricted by geographic borders.

4.Viral. Information often spreads faster through blogs than via a newsservice. No form of viral marketing matches the speed and efficiency of a blog.

5.Syndicatable. By clicking on an icon, you can get free "home delivery" of RSS- enabled blogs into your e-mail software. RSS lets you know when a blog you subscribe to is updated, saving you search time. This process is considerably more efficient than the last- generation method of visiting one page of one web site at a time looking for changes.

6.Linkable. Because each blog can link to all others, every blogger has access to the tens of millions of people who visit the blogosphere every day.

You can find each of these elements elsewhere. None is, in itself, all that remarkable. But in final assembly, they are the benefits of the most powerful two-way Internet communications tool so far developed.

50 Most Influential Bloggers

It’s been a while since I can make a real post. It’s true that I post everyday but none of the post are real to me (real post considered written by me instead of just promoting product :p) Anyway, I come across this site long ago but never have a chance to blog it. Considering I’m free right now, I’ll take this chance to blog this.

This is considered as old news but I think there’s nothing wrong with promoting it. NxE’s Fifty Most Influential Bloggers consist of the list of fifty bloggers (what else?) that not just received lots of hits per day but their blog also contains information that could help us in the world of WWW. The list included names like Matt Cutts (Google Executive – I love his blog!), John Chow (his blog is making money by telling people how to make money), Jeremy Wright (co-founder and CEO of b5media) and Kevin Rose (one of co-founder of Digg)

Although there’s critics on the list contains blogger that specialist mostly on WWW, I don’t think that’s an issue. For me, the Internet is conquered by the ones who know more on IT, so that’s why they’re influential, if you understand what I meant.

To visit the blogger’s blog, you can visit Northeast.com.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

In defending your systems against intruders and other meddlers, a little knowledge can be used to make the bad guys--particularly the more casual among them--seek out softer targets. Counter Hack aims to provide its readers with enough knowledge to toughen their Unix and Microsoft Windows systems against attacks in general, and with specific knowledge of the more common sorts of attacks that can be carried out by relatively unskilled "script kiddies." The approach author Ed Skoudis has chosen is effective, in that his readers accumulate the knowledge they need and generally enjoy the process.

The best part of this book may be two chapters, one each for Windows and Unix, that explain the essential security terms, conventions, procedures, and behaviors of each operating system. This is the sort of information that readers need--a Unix person getting into Windows administration for the first time needs an introduction to the Microsoft security scheme, and vice versa. A third chapter explains TCP/IP with focus on security. With that groundwork in place, Skoudis explains how (with emphasis on tools) attackers look for vulnerabilities in systems, gain access, and maintain their access for periods of time without being discovered. You'll probably want to search online resources for more specific information--Skoudis refers to several--but this book by itself will provide you with the vocabulary and foundation knowledge you need to get the details you want. --David Wall

Review
Writing for Multimedia and the Web is essential reading for anyone who wants to work and create in these competitive arenas. Tim Garrand has created an incredibly useful 'bible' of case studies for this exploding electronic frontier.
Matthew Costello, writer of the games: The 7th Guest, Just Cause, and Pirates of the Caribbean and co-creator of Zoog Disney, on TV and online.

Tim Garrand has done it again! This latest update of Writing for Multimedia and the Web includes all you need to know to get started as an interactive writer or improve your current skills. If you think it's just about good writing think again. Tim reveals how all forms of interactive writing are deeply linked to the design and flow of a game, web site or blog experience. A must read!
David Riordan, Convergence Director - Random 1

A better title for this book might be, Writing for the 21st Century. When it comes to multimedia & the Web, Garrand not only provides a wealth of behind-the-scenes information on current products, but he makes clear that the written wordand its medium-appropriate manipulationis responsible for their impact. Anyone considering a writing career should either get his book, or have access to a good time machine.
Anne Collins-Ludwick, scriptwriter/producer for Nancy Drew PC games

Writing for Multimedia and the Web is excellent the best reference I've seen on writing for both types of computer applications.
James Carter, Ph.D, Harvard Universit

"Writing for Multimedia and the Web, is logically ordered, and clearly written with strong examples. It comes with solid CD-ROM supporting material. For those who have a solid grasp of their craft, but feel uncertain about about the world of media convergence, I recommend the Garrand book" -Bruce McKenna, Canadian Screenwriter

Garrands Writing for Multimedia and the Web is the best textbook Ive found for examining the theory and practice of multimedia writing. The text is straightforward, and the case studies and tolls facilitate student achievement. Ive tried several other texts for my Writing and Multimedia course, but I always return to Garrand. His book sets the standard in the field.
-Michael Huntsberger, Ph,D., University of Oregon

Writing for Multimedia and the Web is really working well for a college course I teach titled, Writing and Interactive Design. I have used the text for more than 5 years and it is the best book overall that I have seen that is a good balance of application an theory.
-Ken Lodge, Oregon Research Institute. Applied Computer Simulation Lab

Writing for Multimedia and the Web is the book for rank beginners and experienced professionals alike, for the neophyte student of the traditional media writers who want to expand their skills. Teachers will find it invaluable as a text and scholars will appreciate the way Garrand integrates theory with application. How can he accomplish so much for such a varied audience? With a smart balance of interviews, explanation, and examples. The novice can work his way through from the beginning, where Garrand, patiently supplies a succinct overview of the field, replete with definitions and an easy to understand description of where the media writer fits into this dizzying process. The veteran writer, on the other hand, will enjoy the first hand accounts and insights about approaches and processes from the numerous writers that Garrand interviewed for his book.
Tim Garrands Writing for Multimedia and the Web continues to be the must have book for any writer, aspiring or otherwise, student or teacher interested in this burgeoning field.
-Dr. Gregg Bachman, Chair, Department of Communication,
The University of Tampa

Understanding Marketing Terms

Since I’m new in the online marketing world and English is not my primary language, I come across a lot of words that I didn’t understand while doing my research. This become harder when the word used in the computer world has different meaning than English term. You know, in computer world, thread is not really a thread, post doesn’t mean mail and so on. So, to help me (and you if you needs to know), I made a research on the words used.

Adware is software with advertising functions integrated into or bundled with a program. It is usually seen by the programmer as a way to recover programming development costs, and in some cases it may allow the program to be provided to the user free of charge or at a reduced price. The advertising income may allow or motivate the programmer to continue to write, maintain and upgrade the software product.

Online Niche Marketing is an often used technique for affiliate marketers. By seeking out smaller segments of larger markets, a website can be developed and promoted quickly to uniquely serve a targeted and usually loyal customer base, giving the affiliate a small but regular income stream. This technique is then repeated across several other niche websites until a desired income level is achieved.

B2C refers to business-to-consumer trade, retail trade. Similarly B2B refers to business-to-business, distribution channel (value chain). C2B refers to consumer-to-business, and uses a reverse pricing model (Priceline for example). C2C refers to consumer-to-consumer, an auction-style model (eBay for example).

CPM (Cost per 1,000), PPC (Pay per Click), CPC (Cost per Click) and CPA (Cost per Action) are types business models for calculating the charge for pages (advertisements) being served.

(Page) Impressions refer to the number of times a page is accessed over a fixed period of time. Thus if a page receives 1,000 impressions per day, then that page is accessed 1,000 over the course of the day. This term is often confused with hits, which is actually an incorrect use of this term (hits and number of impressions would be the same if the page was simply a text page with no additional files associated with it). Page impressions also equal the number of times an advertisement is served, assuming a banner is served each time the page is accessed. Impressions are a metric used in web analytics.

I’m sorry that I didn’t attach all of the terms here. I read it but I didn’t know how to redefine it. Plus, the list is too long and there’s a lot of terms -_-;;. So I decided that it is better for you to look at it yourself.

Editorial Reviews

Book Description
The bestselling success book of all time is updated and revised with contemporary ideas and examples.

Think and Grow Rich has been called the "Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature." It was the first book to boldly ask, "What makes a winner?" The man who asked and listened for the answer, Napoleon Hill, is now counted in the top ranks of the world's winners himself.

The most famous of all teachers of success spent "a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort" to produce the "Law of Success" philosophy that forms the basis of his books and that is so powerfully summarized in this one.

In the original Think and Grow Rich, published in 1937, Hill draws on stories of Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and other millionaires of his generation to illustrate his principles. In the updated version, Arthur R. Pell, Ph.D., a nationally known author, lecturer, and consultant in human resources management and an expert in applying Hill's thought, deftly interweaves anecdotes of how contemporary millionaires and billionaires, such as Bill Gates, Mary Kay Ash, Dave Thomas, and Sir John Templeton, achieved their wealth. Outmoded or arcane terminology and examples are faithfully refreshed to preclude any stumbling blocks to a new generation of readers.

About the Author
Napoleon Hill (1883-1970) enjoyed a long and successful career as a lecturer, an author, and a consultant to business leaders. Think and Grow Rich is the all-time bestseller in its field, having sold 15 million copies worldwide, and setting the standard for today's motivational thinking.

Professional Java E-Commerce

Professional Java E-Commerce (Mass Market Paperback)

Book Description

The term e-commerce encompasses a spectrum of trading interactions from the business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions that facilitate Web-based retail trade, to business-to-business (B2B) data exchange that increases supply chain efficiency. This book shows how the Java platform and Java technologies can be, and have been, employed to develop solutions that address these scenarios.
To allow readers to gain a full appreciation of the diversity of topics involved in building e-commerce solutions, the book consists of five main sections. We begin by looking at the general area of e-business and the commercial considerations surrounding such application development. We then look at the Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE), XML, and XSLT. Building on this, we discuss the development of B2C sites for online selling and the design of effective portal sites. Our fourth section is devoted to the expanding area of B2B commerce where XML and XSLT are proving invaluable. Finally, we highlight new developments in the area of m-commerce and see how Java technologies can be used to facilitate trading anywhere. A particular feature of the book is the inclusion of case studies that provide hard won information on the challenges of building effective B2C and B2B applications in the real world.
